Taken as sweeping views across Bransdale, NRY.
My Dad's Mom' folks were born in the Bransdale and Farndale area of Kirkbymoorside Parish, North Riding of Yorkshire. Newark Wilson farmed in West Bransdale; he was also a blacksmith. He and his wife Hannah (nee Wood) were both from over the moors at Houlsyke in the Egton and Glaisdale area. They resided first after their marriage in Bransdale at the house that went with an old mill at the top of Bransdale, built by William Strickland. Later they lived and farmed at Cowl House.
Their daughter Elizabeth Wilson married James Green. Their youngest, a daughter" Annie Alice married Gordon Barber, my Dad's father. They met in Guelph Township, living on fairly close farms.
In Yorkshire, the Greens were coal miners, working in shallow pits (looking like giant green ant hills now) on Rudland Rigg, a ridge which divides Bransdale and Farndale. There is an old 'drover's road' extending for miles along the Rigg. James Green was born at Rudland Rigg at Moor Houses.
