An old sampler created by ancestor Eizabeth (nee Pennock) Leng, of Rake Farm, Glaisdale, in the North Riding of Yorkshire. Elizabeth married Thomas Gatenby in 1799, the year she made this keepsake. Thomas died only a few years later and Elizabeth married John Leng. They had a son, Elijah. She long outlived John at Rake Farm.

I was graciously given this sampler, along with two others, during a visit in which I discovered a distant cousin, in Whitby, NRY, who was glad to share this precious piece with me to keep it in the family, she having no offspring or close relatives still living.
