The Heavens Declare

A Psalmist's View

Category:

In Psalm 19, the writer asserts that God is revealed and can be known through both Creation and Revelation, through the 'Book of Nature' and the 'Book of Scripture.'

Of course, the clearer revelation of God's love, and His plan to rescue people, places and things in this broken world, is given to us in the Bible. And yet so much of God's mind, His plan, His mighty power and awesome works are shown to us in creation itself.

The psalmist, a poet and an artist, mirrors the artistry and majesty of God. I have attempted to show this too in the video, albeit in small measure. It depicts the Book of Creation part of the psalm, in verses 1 to 6.

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.

In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun. It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, like a champion rejoicing to run his course. It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other. Nothing is deprived of its warmth.
