Royal Botanical Gardens

A February Visit

Category:

Recently, I accompanied my mother and sister on an indoor excursion and visit to the Royal Botanical Gardens in Burlington.

My mother has been coming here for nearly 90 years, from the days that it was a quarry, restored and flowered and now much expanded with many varieties of indoor and outdoor plants, for all seasons.

(Adapted from Wikipedia) - "Initial sections of the RBG were built during the Great Depression in the 1930s as a make work project. It beautified derelict or undeveloped land in west Burlington. A disused gravel pit was turned into the Rock Gardens, by using stone relocated from the Niagara Escarpment. The original vision of the RBG was a mixture of horticultural displays and protected natural forests and wetlands. Formal permission was obtained in 1930 from King George V to call the gardens the "Royal Botanical Gardens"."

I understand the restoration and upgrade of the tulip area, situated in the 'old quarry' area, will be ready for viewing this Spring.

Beautiful!

And a good place to have fun, sharing with family and taking pictures.
