Viewing our Galactic Home
Category:
The Milky Way is our 'galactic home.'
The Milky Way contains around four hundred billion stars and has a diameter that is about one hundred and eighty thousand light years.
The solar system in which our earth participates is around 27,000 light years from the centre of the Milky Way. Scientists believe that at this Galactic Center there is a supermassive black hole.
The neighbours of our galaxy are the Andromeda and Magellanic Cloud galaxies.
I try to keep remembering that the staggering size, energy and beauty of all of this calls for faith in a God, its Creator. Again to say, my thoughts, understanding and appreciation of God are far too small.
