One of the early verses that I learned as a small child (at that time in the ubiquitous King James Version) was I Peter 5:8 (which of course comes immediately following verse 7 – ‘casting all your care upon Him for He careth for you . . .’). And then, verse 8 – ‘Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the Devil, as a roaring lion walketh about seeking whom he may devour.’ I have been fascinated by the 'lion' part but sometimes not as cautious and thus carefree as I should be.

It is also true to say that we should be wary of the fact that, especially as and if we are addicted to particular sins and less than beneficial-to human-flourishing behaviour patterns, each of us carries within us the seeds of our own destruction.
