Something About God

Now, to Pay Attention

Category:

I think that every person – their presence, their uniqueness, their face and body, their giftedness, the contribution of their life – says something about God, the God who created each one of us.

That being said, I think also that every piece and parcel of creation says something similar – some aspect of power, beauty, goodness, capacity, wonder and fearsomeness – also giving piece and measure to God’s Self, their Creator.

We might think of these aspects of persons and our universal environment, from the base and perspective of planet earth, as ‘’The Book of Creation’ in its God-revelation -  just as, for Christians and Jews, the Old Testament (for both) and the New Testament (for Jesus-followers), give more detailed and specific revelation of the God who is there.

The revelation of  Scripture is not primarily about history, though it is that; nor is it merely great literature, though it is that as well. It’s not a book primarily of science, though it may be more accurate in some aspects of human seeing of nature (scio = I see) than is sometimes credited to it.

It is primarily a revelation of God’s salvation and redemptive plan to rescue a creation gone wrong in so many aspects – marred and broken, not living up to its potential or ‘acting up or acting out’ in the opposite of what should be, even in immoral, rebellious opposition to the Creator.

Of course in some ways there is even order still, in the chaos and throughout the universe (else we’d have missed the moon in 1967 when we aimed some of our own and shot them up and out via rocket, ‘sky-ward’).

Something about God . . . artists, photographers, painters, poets, musicians, preachers all, are those who help us pay attention to the Creation so that in loving surrender and stewardly service we may live in hope, joy, peace and love towards the Creator, ourselves and others.

Now - to pay attention.
