Winter Solstice

A Season of Our Discontent

Category:

Winter Solstice presents us with the dichotomy of beauty and struggle in both nature and human relationship.

In antiquity, the Romans saw Angerona, the goddess of fear and anguish as the one who both brings and relieves pain and sorrow. Through her silence and the concentration of mystical force it brings, it was thought that Angerona helps to successfully sustain the yearly crisis of the winter days. Her festival was celebrated on December 21, the same day as the winter solstice.

God is with us in our struggles and pain, and God is with us in our pleasures and joys. He brings us into - and through and out.
