Recently, scientists have observed the moment of conception when a sperm meets an egg, noting that in that instant there occurs a bright flash of light.
Researchers from Northwestern University, in Chicago, noticed that some of the eggs burn brighter than others. They believe this may indicate that such are more likely to produce a healthy baby and that this may be “a way of sorting egg quality in a way we’ve never been able to assess before. “ Further, as they observe: “This means if you can look at the zinc spark at the time of fertilization, you will know immediately which eggs are the good ones to transfer in vitro fertilization. All of biology starts at the time of fertilization, yet we know next to nothing about the events that occur in the human.”
In the Biblical Story of Creation, it is also interesting to note that creation itself (and perhaps also(?) - each created object or being that follows) begins with a ‘let there be light’ statement by the Creator. Also telling is the prologue to John’s Gospel, where the author clearly links the Creation with the Word by which it was created, and with that Light that lightens all of humankind. The Creator, that Word and that Light, Christians believe, is Jesus of Nazareth, the Messiah. He continues to give Light and Life. This is true in physical realities and can also be so in the spiritual realms as His apprentice-disciples have also discovered.
Perhaps to be enlightened is to be created, and vice versa. All at once; once in the same.
The implications for both science and theology are huge. They combine in wonderful ways to bring us nearer the Truth - as has always been so.
