Passion and power are linked to purpose – to knowing where you’re going; knowing what you want to do, are supposed to do.

 I heard, once, a pastor named Dr. Maurice Boyd talk about why it is that sometimes we feel so tired, so listless, powerless – and even maybe depressed as a result. We may feel like that. We can see it oftentimes in others. One reason, said Dr. Boyd, that people seem listless and without power is this: ‘Power’ is the ability to get things done; to do what we need to do, what we want to do.

He continued, 'If we don’t know what it is we are to do, don’t know what we want to do – we’ll have no power!'

Power is connected to purpose – and purpose to power. The ability to do will come when we know what we want to do, what is our mission, our vocation our purpose for this day or week, or for our life.

Power is given to enable us to do it. We will find the resources, the passion, the enabling power only when it becomes clear to us what now we should do, the direction and place to which we should be going.

Clarity about our mission is vital if we’re going to have any ability to carry forrward our mission.

And we will come alive as we do so.
