Sunflower

Creation is Incredibly Wonderful

A very technical magazine included a drawing of a sunflower seed pattern, with drawings illustrating a complex engineering principle.

Every sunflower demonstrates the exact same arrangement of seeds. There are always 58 rows and each row starts in the centre and builds out in a widening spiral to the outside. Because the centre rows are so close, the sunflower bulges in the middle.

The sunflower head picks up enormous support in the centre, allowing the spiral to range far away without weakening the design. The concept applies to dome building and engineers tell us that the sunflower's design is perhaps the strongest possible support-design for a large dome.

Sunflowers are also diurnal; that is, their face turns to face the sun throughout the day. There's a word there for people of faith who also daily follow the Son.
