Just feel like giving thanks and praising my Lord, today.

And I think about the helps that are given for those of us who want to do so.

Stained glass windows in churches, like icons and others religious aids, are meant to point beyond themselves: to Truth, to Eternity, to God. If we stop and worship 'the aid' (in this case the window) or some the icon -  and don't see through them to that to which they point, well that's idolotry.

An icon isn't any more idolotrous in itself (or should not be) than is a sign that points to Toronto. No one takes the sign as Toronto itself; it's just a help along the way, pointing beyond to that place, that reality, we seek.

So also with Scripture itself: Beyond the Sacred Page, we see Thee, Lord. Through and beyond the windows of life and experience, we seek God.
